BCI (Better Cotton Initiative)
Definition
A global non-profit that promotes measurably better standards in cotton farming — reducing water use, improving soil health, and ensuring fair labour practices. BCI cotton is not organic but is grown under sustainability guidelines that represent a significant improvement over conventional cotton. BCI accounts for over 20% of global cotton production, making it more accessible and affordable than certified organic cotton for brands at scale.
