Marker Making
Definition
The process of arranging all pattern pieces for all sizes onto a layout (marker) that fits the fabric width, maximising material utilisation. A skilled marker maker or CAD software can achieve 85-92% fabric utilisation. Every percentage point of improvement matters at scale — on a 10,000-unit order, a 2% utilisation gain can save hundreds of metres of fabric and thousands of euros.
