Deadstock

Definition

Unsold finished goods or unused raw materials that remain in inventory — including fabric rolls, cut pieces, and finished garments that were overproduced or never sold. In sustainable fashion, some brands specifically source deadstock fabrics to reduce waste, though this is debated as it can incentivise overproduction. At a manufacturing level, minimising deadstock through accurate demand forecasting, precise cutting, and right-sized MOQs is a core sustainability practice.
