Warp
Definition
The set of lengthwise yarns held under tension on a loom through which the weft is woven. Warp yarns run parallel to the selvedge and are typically stronger and more tightly twisted than weft yarns, as they must withstand the stress of the weaving process. In fabric specification, warp direction determines the grain line used in pattern cutting.
