Digitising
Definition
The process of converting artwork into a stitch file (typically .DST format) that an embroidery machine can read. A digitiser maps each element of the design — fill areas, outlines, text — and assigns stitch types, directions, densities, and underlay. Quality digitising is critical: poor digitising causes thread breaks, puckering, registration issues, and designs that look nothing like the original artwork.
